Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, strengthened his midfield this summer by recruiting three wonderful midfielders capable of thrilling the entire midfield and important aids to the frontlines in terms of key passes. Darwin Nunez finds it difficult to adjust to Liverpool's football pattern, and the club has not performed up to expectations, being too hesitant and recording dismal results in league games. Competing against Erling Haaland, I don't think he can compete with the Norwegian international since Liverpool lacks what City possesses, which is a dominant midfield.
I think it would be pretty unfair to directly compare Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland just by their personal stats because Haaland is playing for the best team in the world at the moment that is scoring a lot of goals and therefore it is just a logical consequence, that he is also able to score a lot of goals because he simply gets so many chances. Nunez on the other hand is playing for a team, that was not doing so well this season for their standards.
Still i think it is fair to say, that the officials and also the fans of Liverpool expected a little more from Darwin Nunez. Liverpool has payed 80 Million € for him, which was way to much in my opinion and so far he is not performing on a level that would justify such a high amount of money for him. He is still young though and he can improve.
Well, we can say that it is unfair to compare Darwin Núñez and Erling Haaland. But we also have to remember that Liverpool was the runners up of the season before this one when Darwin Núñez came into Liverpool. And he was also brought into Liverpool for 64 million if I remember correctly. So a good performance was expected from him, but the problem is he was injured right after he joined.
Anyway, I still think that it is probably not best for Darwin Núñez to compare him with Erling Haaland. I also agree that Manchester City was far better compared to Liverpool. In the next season, he will have to perform otherwise, Liverpool might actually bring someone else in his place.
