Mason Mount has just officially joined and he is immediately given full confidence to become a player whose task is not easy. While there were rumors previously that the jersey number would be given to Garnacho by Erik Ten Hag, in the end it was very unexpected that Mason Mount was chosen to wear the number 7 shirt. Maybe Mason Mount is more experienced than Garnacho whose age is still not suitable for carrying this heavy burden. It's just that in my opinion number 7 is very mystical and not all players are suitable for wearing that number shirt.
So do you think Mount can show that the trust placed in him is the right decision or is it the other way around?
I didn't know he received shirt number 7 till I just read your post. Only the club's brightest players are given the number 7, and the majority of them go on to become club legends. Ever since Eric Cantona made the number 7 an iconic number, eyes have been fixed on it. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo also accomplished legendary feats while wearing the number 7. It is not a good idea to bring in a new player and put too much pressure on him to replicate icons because this could make the player perform poorly under pressure. Before giving him the number 7, they could have waited at least a season, when he would have been more comfortable.
Mount is a very good player and he could pull it off and become an outstanding player and I won’t be suprised if he does but i wish they had given garnacho or waited for a while before giving him the number because to whom much is given much is expected.
