Real Madrid has struggled to sign mbappe, and in my opinion, if they make every effort and PSG refuses to negotiate mbappe's release, it would be best if Real Madrid forgot about him. After all, Real Madrid has been pursuing mbappe for a very long time. I do not think that they have "struggled" to sign him, they know that they can get him for free next season, and if not at the very worst case they need to find a young striker, which they do have with Enrick but we know thats going to take a long time, so they need another one that they can play. Like this season to be fair to them, they do not have a star striker at the moment, and Mbappe could be great for them, but even without him, they are fine.
So, I am guessing that the best thing about them right now is the fact that they are not overspending, they spend very little money and they are doing fine, I guess it is going to be fine in the end. Mbappe or not, next season or not, they are doing fine, so there is no struggle.
