We need to always make efforts to demonstrate ourselves that we are in control even if we do not feel we are showing any signs of addiction, for example sometimes I just decide randomly to stop gambling for at least a month, and I do this because a person that really had problems controlling their gambling will never be able to do something like this, so once I spend a month or even a longer period of time without gambling I have demonstrated myself that I have no problems and I can keep gambling as usual.

The best way to show your independence in any case is to temporarily abandon this case. Similarly, the same applies to gaming addiction, or just a strong attraction to the game.
It is important not only to step back and do something else, but also to notice how often you think about gambling or betting. If day after day you forget about them, then that's great. And this is an indicator that you have a lot of other interests that take up your time and attention.
It can be a family, ordinary computer games, drawing, walking down the street or any other hobby.

This is a good metric as well, as even if someone could stop gambling for a lot of time if they are always thinking about gambling then there is something wrong with them, and they were just able to stop gambling for so long by thinking about their previous gambling experiences, however this can be difficult to measure as it would be normal for a person to think about gambling once in a while during that period, and there is no way to determine how many times is too many and could indicate some kind of gambling problem.
