If you're just getting started with crypto currency, the easiest place to store your coins is on the exchanges. Exchanges are simply a place where you can trade one coin for another. Instead of downloading software for each coin you're interested in, you can store your coins on an exchange. As you get more familiar with crypto currency, you will want to have your coins in your own wallet.
I would suggest not recommending new people to leave their coins on an exchange...Good way to lose a lot of money and scare new people off
