What is there to think about if they are willing to DOUBLE his salary just to keep him in the City and extend the contract.
But I wrote about something else - I remember exactly that when this option of Silva's transfer to Barcelona initially arose, Guardiola spun a lot of beautiful words about the fact that City do not hold anyone by force and respect the wishes of the players, etc. And it turns out that it was not true in the sense that they really need Silva, and beautiful words were just an attempt to "solve" the issue not by increasing wages, but by introducing into Silva's head the idea that City doesn't need him that much.

There is absolutely no doubt, if a tempting proposal arises from Manchester City, he should not leave Manchester City at this moment. Departing from Manchester City at this particular juncture would be a grave mistake. The club has presented him with an exceedingly enticing offer, one accompanied by a substantial handsome salary.

Of course, a club should never give a single player all the importance. And I believe that’s what they tried to do. But people started the rumour that Manchester City wanted to sell him. I don’t think that is going to create any problems, to be honest.  The club is giving him good importance. And that is probably the only problem that has been caused. The plan of the club actually backfired. Now because of all the rumours they have to give a little more importance to their players.

Yes, doubling the salary would be a good reason to stay at City, not to mention that City will continue to dominate and with this club he will take many more titles. But the consequences of this whole story, of course, can be unpleasant for City: now many players will think that even if they look like “not the most important cog” in the club’s squad, in fact the club depends on them very much and obviously they can demand better conditions or go to another club.
