It is absolutely certain that the best solution to such a problem for such a player would be a complete refusal to further participate in any gambling.  However, far from all people can do this, especially if problems have already begun in the family due to too much loss and due to the fact that the player began to use the family budget money necessary for the normal life of all family members, children, of course, first of all  .  If such a player could not stop playing before such gambling costs, then it will be very difficult to recover further.  Because such an addiction is definitely already a disease, and without a doctor and medicines, most likely he will not be able to recover without outside help.
However, the player must be able to stop even if he finds it difficult because it is for his own good and that of his family. He can't use the budget for his family because it can disrupt his family's finances. Maybe he can talk to family members so they can help him overcome his gambling addiction problem while accompanying him to go to a therapist. But this requires openness from the person to tell the truth about what happened to him. But the average person addicted to gambling will not tell others that he is addicted to gambling.

I think you are absolutely correct in pointing out that such a person will, in the vast majority of cases, not tell anyone about their gambling addiction.
And this is where the main problem of such players lies.  A person cannot say this because other people will naturally reproach, scold and even insult him and say that he is so weak-willed that he cannot stop playing.  This psychological brake in the behavior of a gambler over time constantly only makes it worse and worse, and painful gambling only gets worse.  For this reason, the sooner he turns to specialists, the easier it will be for him to overcome such addiction to gambling.  And the easier and simpler will be the life of his entire family if the family does not have the problem of constant daily struggle with the gambling addiction of one of the family members.
I still think that without the help of specialists in these matters, if not impossible, then certainly it is very difficult to cope.
