You could check their social media and official website to see if there are any reports of hacks or vulnerabilities on their side. Regarding your private keys and seeds not being on the device. You are using MetaMask, right? That's a hot (browser) wallet that holds the necessary signing keys, otherwise you wouldn't be able to sign and broadcast transactions.
