Nerds are a negative?
The average coolguy secretly envies the nerd's intelligence and would love to profit from all of the nerd's hard work without much real effort or understanding. So, I list Bitcoin's association with "nerds" as a positive thing.
What really is going to be a driving factor towards greater adoption is when these nerds implement ways to make it simple for the coolguy (average idiot) to figure out what buttons to press on coolguy's smart phone to actually use these fricken things. Word on the street is that the nerds are working on this
