I agree with you; there are some attitudes that a gambler will begin to portray, and you can just conclude that they are on the verge of becoming addicted gamblers, and one of the characters is taking credit to gamble, using money that's not your own to gamble, selling some properties to gamblers, and other stuff. During the early stage, it just starts gradually like that, until they have totally lost control of their own actions and decisions. There's no way any gambler can be applauded for taking a loan to gamble; it will mostly be classified as irresponsible gambling.
Once a gambler breaks that taboo and they begin to borrow money to gamble there are very small possibilities of succeeding on making them see how mistaken they are to do this.
As it is obvious that at that time they have lost any kind of common sense and they are willing to do anything to fuel their addiction, this is also the stage in which even their loved ones and friends distance themselves from them, as once they owe them money, money they know they will never recover, they become unwilling to keep helping that person to destroy their life by financing their addiction.
