Or perhaps Bitcoin doesn't even have to be that day-to-day global currency everyone shall be using all over the world. With what's happening right now, we're once again confronted with the
reality that Bitcoin simply can't perform that role. I'm reminded of Hal Finney's vision of Bitcoin becoming some sort of a "high-powered money" in the future. The genius was at least realistic in acknowledging Bitcoin's shortcomings. The Lightning Network is a development in this direction.
Bitcoin itself cannot scale to have every single financial transaction in the world be broadcast to everyone and included in the block chain. There needs to be a secondary level of payment systems which is lighter weight and more efficient.
