Plagiarism is when you take somebody work and present it as your own and it is different from Copy Right infringement which is when you use somebodies work without permission.

Plagiarism is unethical and a serious issue both in academic and professional world.

Plagiarism attracts a failing grade, academic withdrawer or degree revocation in an Educational institution. it also brings about loss of credibility and damage of reputation. Plagiarism does not contributes to the advancement of knowledge/understanding and can cause harm.

HOW MUCH PLAGIARISM IS ACCEPTED 

Different institutions and Journals have different standard and there is no set rule for this. However, if a text has below 10% test it is considered ok but if it is above 20% the content is considered highly plagiarize.
