With that mentality is very difficult not just to gamble responsibly but actually to do anything in life other than failing over and over until a decision to take the reins of your life is taken. Some people have traumas and problems and it is much more difficult for them to self-control and to be self-aware of what they are doing. But I would say most people are either unwilling to progress or to lazy to do so.

That last statement, either unwilling or lazy to do so, I agree to that point, there are many gamblers who thinks that they are still in control and thinking that they are still doing the right thing, not realizing that they are already engage too much, and they can't stop playing even they already losing a lot.

You need to have that strong will to quit away or to control your involvement with gambling, if you really wanted to stop or lessen your
participation and possible losses.
Being in control really mean a lot and does come with some kind of level of discipline and drive to stay ahead at every point on the way,  most time addiction always comes from the inability of the gambler to stick to his pre-determined rules that should normally be set before starting to gamble at any point and this is what we most likely need to check at frequent how overly involving we are becoming with gambling.

This check should be done deliberately and every week to allow the gambler to have an assessment of their weekly gambling activities and monitor whether or not he is sliding into addiction and keep it in check at all times.
