How do you feel when you are told that someone is a school dropout, or divorced? Or that the person had a child at a very young age (say 14,16 years) or worst of it he/she had a leaked seks video?
It's always common to judge such people and even if you feel sorry for them, the moment you see them again, the first thing that comes to mind is that he/she is a dropout and you might even start looking down on them.
The truth is, these are not situations people will normally want to find themselves in but the reality is that it does happen, and most times when it happens the stigmatization from people around can cause serious depression that if not properly managed can lead the victim to make a bad decision.
Because of these,
1. people remain in failed marriages because they don't want to be called "divorced" and face serious trauma all by themselves
2. Young girls see abortion as the only option to cover up from being seen as a bad person for becoming pregnant at an early age. This has led to so many deaths in the process
3. Young students become seriously depressed in school because they know that society will look down on them if they drop out and so they endure the abuse and pains inflicted by lecturers and a faulty educational system that isn't even working.
People are very quick to judge and I think we as a society need to embrace the certainty of circumstances. That you got married before becoming pregnant doesn't make you a better person, that you are lucky to have a good partner doesn't make the other who ran out of his marriage for his life's sake a bad person.
Life is very unpredictable, the least we can do is give our support and a helping hand to people in facing these life realities.
