If it could be done, they would have been trying to figure it out. They tried but failed. Day by day that hard drive is getting more and more useless. As a result we can be almost certain that it is not possible for them to recover those bitcoins. Bitcoins they kept in their wallets were worthless at the time, but now they are skyrocketing.
