I am well aware of Primecoin. Primecoin is a cryptocurrency where the purpose of the mining algorithm is to generate Cunningham chains. The problem with Cunningham chains is that they do not seem to be very important or interesting even to mathematicians. I would therefore consider Primecoin's mining algorithm an attempt at using cryptocurrency mining to solve an important problem rather than a satisfactory solution.
I see. Anyway, Primecoin isn't only cryptocurrency which use proof of useful work (PoUW). Take note i simply use term people usually use and whether it's actually useful or not depends on each person.
