A new model with their own secure element? Is that actually something they talked about before?
+Yes, they have been working on that in last few years and I was talking about it for a while in forum.
I'm really wondering what are the important features they are missing, that would require them to release new hardware for them to implement. Any thoughts? aside from maybe support for more non-EVM crypto?

I don't know about that, only thing I know that device is black. 
Trezor is probably going to release a bit more information about this devices in next few days.
