Op you made a very good point her in your article, but you need to understand that the cost of living now is just too much even to the farmers, because of fuel price increment, after harvesting farm products they need to transport the goods,  which currently cost the most for farmers, we are have not talk about fertilizer and labour. So what I feel is the real issue is the fuel price, because it affect every part of the economy.

Until the government do something about fuel price, things will keeps on get ugly

Fuel price affects everybody but it shouldn't be used as a yardstick not to encourage farming as most of our local farmers have farms closer to their homes and moreover those farms are trekkable and one can use wheel barrow or bicycle that doesn't require fuel for the transportation of farm produce the laborers can be settled after the farm produce have been sold so the cost of fuel doesn't really affect agriculture that much
