Girona presence in the top four of the standings is very surprising, especially since they topped the standings before suffering their first defeat to Real Madrid. It is too early to assume that Girona will be able to finish in the European zone, La Liga has only gone through 9 games, they still have a lot more to go, including facing other strong teams.
I know anything can happen in football, but to achieve their goals they must always consistently maintain their performance. There are still regular clubs that often finish in the European zone that are ready to provide competition for Girona. Clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Bilbao will be Girona toughest competitors in fighting for a place in the European Zone.
I don't give Girona much confidence in competing in the European zone until the end of the season. I know they are in their best form so far, but the time will come when they experience a drop in form against strong teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and several others.
Girona has so far been able to consistently win matches because the opponents they have faced are not too strong. The players have gained good confidence and this really helps Girona to gain a lot of points. Their performance against Real Madrid looked ordinary, only in the first 5 minutes they managed to create several good opportunities. But anyway, I like their not-so-closed appearance against a team as big as Real Madrid. They played openly and attacked and Girona even managed to beat Real Madrid in terms of ball possession percentage.
