Your argument is valid since most of the time budget has been provided to women after the hard labor of his husband, if the wife will be engaged to gambling chances that she will endanger the family's finances, though it's not every time that female or women are just for that purpose as there are already women who also doing their own labor to meet their expenses.
There's always a consequence that depends on how each person is handling, in your situation for sure it will not be a good one for women to gamble for such a reason.
To a significant degree, I believe that gambling, once it gets to addiction levels, has more to do with forces beyond one's control. For instance, when you always memorise a poem constantly, over a long period of time(weeks, months or years), you literally do no need to hold the book to read it off from any written document to recite it. Every spark of the exact same words/sentences arranged just drifts you into that poem, same goes for an addicted gambler and if it's a woman in such a situation, whether or not she works to earn hers', she'll still gamble with it and that's not welcoming for her finances.
