Yesterday I didn't watch Sheffield's match against Manchester United, but with a score of 1-2, at least the Red Devils won again in matchweek 9. We also know that in the previous match Manchester United won dramatically against Brentford and at least they were able to prove it again by winning again against Sheffield. It shouldn't be difficult for the Red Devils, even though in away matches against weak teams like Sheffield and perhaps Manchester United, they have to be more productive in scoring goals and don't rely on narrow wins too often.
On the other hand, I was very surprised to see Harry Maguire's performance in this match and he even became POTM against Sheeffield. Who would have thought that this Red Devils defender, who always makes mistakes, could have such a big impact on Manchester United. Especially as a back-up defender, Harry Maguire gives everything when the team needs it. If you look at Harry Maguire's statistics, he ranks first in every part he plays and I think this will be the starting point for Harry Maguire in the future to remain consistent. We also know that Harry Maguire never gives up competing with other players to get his starting position back. I think the competition for places in the back line will heat up and Erik Ten Hag will have to make his choice correctly.Despite the difficulties over the past time, Harry Maguire still quietly made efforts, overcame the harshness of the media, and returned to his best image. From the peak of his performance, he wore the captain's armband of MU. This defender is gradually remembered for the mistakes that led to MU's defeat. At the beginning of the season, coach Ten Hag often sat the former captain on the bench. He even suggested that Maguire go to West Ham to save his career, but the English midfielder insisted on staying. After Lisandro Martinez got injured and Varane lost form, the opportunity came again for Maguire.
There is no more "comedy" Maguire on the field anymore. Instead, he is a true leader in the MU defense. Maguire coming out and shining is an unexpected development at MU.
I think the turning point for Harry Maguire was after he freed himself from the responsibility of team captain and so far he has finally been able to play very freely. Harry Maguire tried very hard and Erik Ten Hag's support made him even more confident to give his best performance. Now Manchester United doesn't need to be confused when other defenders such as Varane and Martinez are still absent due to injury because Harry Maguire can close the gap again. The comedic image that Harry Maguire has built will slowly disappear if he continues to consistently produce good results and perhaps Manchester United will be stronger in defense this season.
