When a gambler is addicted to gambling, he's not just a threat his personal life and future but also a threat to everyone around him including family members. An addicted gambler is very ready to to anything that'll provide him the money to continue his gambling including stealing and other illicit activities that are condemnable by the general society. That's it's very important to notify anyone who wants venture in to gambling to leave how to gamble responsibly or leave anything that has to do with gambling.
I have a family who is addicted to drugs but I think they have the same principle because, in my observations, they are willing to sacrifice anybody just to fill their needs because they don't really care about anyone anymore as long as they get the means to do their addictions. Just like the story I always relate concerning this topic, when our neighbor befriended a gambling addict, they won't give him peace because whenever he loses all the money from playing cards, he goes to ask for money from them even in the middle of the night where everyone is sleeping and this is a real story because I witnessed it myself. this is how mad they are and they cannot just simply stop whenever they want.
You say drugs are the same, I think so too. Addiction to gambling is not much different from addiction in that those who are already heavily addicted will feel a phase when they have no money at all and in themselves really want to gamble, just like drug addiction, right?
At times like this, they can do negative things that can harm other people who don't know anything like committing crimes or stealing or anything so that they can do the habit called addiction.
When they play by forcibly asking for money from anyone, it also includes the bad effects of gambling because those who are already heavily addicted so it is difficult to leave it. In addition to playing time as you say they play in the middle of the night continuously, of course, it is also a bad impact that will damage their health and their mentality. The magnitude of the adverse effects of gambling if they are already heavily addicted, so it is difficult to get rid of this habit.
