Well on my own opinion I think Ten hag got the players he required to execute his project unfortunately things didn't work out as planned but I wouldn't say it's as a result of the kind of players he recruited into the squad, but I would rather say it's a thing of inadequate motivation or low morale from the entire squad because these players in question are world class players but I wonder why they always struggle whenever they on the pitch against an opponent whether small or big. But then as a coach the bulk of the blame will be on him, though I'm not still happy with him letting Ronaldo to go, because he was still an asset.
Ten hag has got good players, his team dept is good enough to get him results that will be very much commendable but I still think the whole issues still boils down to management. Ten hag has managed the team poorly and it is obvious as seen in the attitude and performance of the player's since this season.
Ten hang has been rumored to have a very poor relationship with his players and is always in some kind of in house conflicts with them most of the time, I think it's one of the things that led to him letting Ronaldo go and same with one of the best keeper Manchester united has had, de gea. All these valuable players gone and how he relates with the present players isn't encouraging, so he really has to work on his relationship with the players so they have a good atmosphere that will foster good performance amongst them.
