This is very correct, playing games out of boredom can sometimes be very irrational because you will definitely not make some logical picks because you are just doing it to keep yourself company or staying out of boredom and this is different when you allocate time to it.
Playing a game out of boredom is good, it helps keep one busy but if the game involves staking money, I'll say its not the best remedy for boredom. You can literally slip into depression from that game as you will loose much more than anticipated and in pursuit of what is lost, you'll not be rational in reasoning about the games, before you realise it, you have not only exceeded budget but tampered with other funds meant for alternative stuff.
If you are bored and want to play game, please ensure to leave gamble out of the equation, it is best for both your mental health and your finances as well.
