This is the kind of performance I expected from Tottenham this season. But what really surprised me was how well they performed from the start of the season. I don't expect to see such a good performance from this team this season. But now Tottenham's performance is quite weak. They have lost the last two matches by a big margin. Against Aston Villa they had the potential to earn points. But in this match too, Tattenham lost 2-1.
By selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur did not set their target to win Premier League in this season. I believe they only tried to end this season at as highest position as possible and their ambition is aiming at top four. They did not want to get more than a position in top four. The transfer of Maddison and his good performances are helpful for Son Heung Min and Tottenham but only him is not enough for their attacking system in a long season. It plus with their not-strong defense system, makes them are not good enough to compete for a first position even they had some weeks there.
Tottenham dropped from the top of the table to fifth place after losing three matches in a row. However, the performance of Tottenham's players against Aston Villa was better than in the previous two matches. They were able to make many attacks. The players were also confident. It is unfortunate for Tottenham that they could not get any points in this match.
It is expected and it can be their position at the season ending too. With high competitiveness in Premier League, and with recoveries of Newcastle United, Manchester United and Chelsea, it will be very hard for Tottenham to stay in top four at the end.
