Addiction can occur from thought patterns and habits, so when playing gambling we must be able to manage time and must separate the money that needs to be spent on gambling so that even when we lose we don't feel too disappointed which makes us want to play again in the hope of taking back the money we lost. .
The setting in of addiction is something we may not be aware of sometimes until you are already addicted, this is why it's important to put in strategy to manage our resources and time we dedicate to gambling so it doesn't turn out to hurt us before we come to the realization.

We may have varring reason for which we engage in gambling but when ever we turn addicts, these reasons may turn out not justifiable enough for our actions, but if we keep track of how well we engage in gambling, this includes our budgets, time, and other resources we may commit to gambling, it will help a long way to mitigate the effects if it turns out against us, a typical example is if you stake an amount you can comfortably loose on a particular game, if it turns out in loss you will still be fine same applies big it turns out a win.
Yup! like you occur the symptoms without noticing it at first until you realized that you are already addicted into it. Sometimes even we advice to ourself to keep track everything so we can prevent being addicted, we can't do that once we've been in that situation as if we can't remember everything we said to ourself that things won't happen sooner. Those things that you've mentioned is very helpful to those people who stick to their goals when gamble.
