Truth be told, I don't believe it's only addicts that are prone to losing huge sums in gambling, the fact the gambled wild a few times doesn't really make you an addict. What you should say is, there's always time in a gambler's life that he'll be pushed to gamble wild. Gambling wild a few time is different from addiction. Addiction is when you're already used to wild gambling and you don't think about nothing else other than to gamble. That's addiction.

Everyone who gambles has a likelihood of losing small as well as huge sums of money during their time gambling. It’s not only addicts that has been known to lose huge amounts. And yes, gambling wildly or irresponsibly for a short period of time doesn’t make one an addict as addiction doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes a constant amount of irresponsible gambling for one to develop the habit and slowly build up an addiction.
It takes someone with a strong will to quit such habit.
Everyone loses in gambling both the addicts and those that are in control of their gambling lifestyle, losing too much doesn't make you an addict but chasing those losses constantly can gradually make you an addict. Moreso, constant wild gambling can be a symptom of addictive gambling lifestyle when it turn to be a regular pattern of going wild for you and not until you go wild you don't get satisfactory with your gambling for the day, mate that's addiction taking a center stage.
