It is still a big step to go from the top of a domestic league like La Liga to the next level in the Champions League. And we have a good example for that, which is Newcastle United. They are playing in an even stronger domestic league and they did play very well last season in the Premier League and yet it doesn't mean that it is also time for them to be dominant in Europe. Can Girona take the next step? Yes I think so and considering who is backing Girona, it is possible that investments will follow if they qualify for the Champions League. But I would not expect an outstanding first Champions League season for them. It is more like acclimatization to the new environment and then get going better and better over time in the coming years.
Exactly, the Champions League competition will be a big competition for them, but as a team with ambition to grow higher, I think they will keep improving to meetup to the Champions League standard just as Newcastle United is struggling. But I just hope they will not go down like Union Berlin who also make a great effort in the Bundesliga last season to make it to Champions League but this season, there performance is very poor both in Champions League and in their domestic League Bundesliga.
I see what you mean but Union Berlin can't be compared to Girona as Girona has a corporate structure of investors backing it. I don't know much about Union Berlin, but I have never heard about anything that could be similar to what Girona can rely on. Money won't be a problem for Girona and access to other resources like players and coaches won't be a problem either as they can provide highly attractive conditions. But I think Girona is still like a start up that is about to skyrocket. It's good to see new teams bring about some action for all other teams that were established at the top for such a long time.
