BurnStar primary purpose is to rectify the flaws present in Bitcoin's security framework. An essential aspect of Bitcoin's security lies in the significant disparity between block delay and the round trip time of a new block. To maintain this security, altering the block delay or increasing block size (thus lengthening the block round trip time) inevitably disrupts the existing security guarantees. The main concern arises from reducing the gap between block delay and round trip time, which leads to an alarming increase in orphaned blocks. Consequently, the effort invested in these blocks becomes futile, failing to fortify the network against potential threats. In a scenario where half of the honest blocks are orphaned, a well-connected adversary would need only half the hash rate of the honest network to seize control.
