He has osteoarthritis in his left knee and is in constant pain, has to take up to three pills and has to do an injection (probably corticosteroids) before football matches. If he doesn't stop football, i.e. if he doesn't retire, his body will force him to retire and it will be even more painful because he won't be able to walk normally. I think he has enough money to retire and live amazing life the rest of his life. His fame is already gone.
I think that he might move in America just to have a guaranteed high quality of life along with Messi and will play with less enthusiasm. By the way, Messi's influence is super high, this guy just tells Inter Miami to transfer his friend and pay him millions of dollars

I can't believe it.
Some people do this and I have no idea why. When you are talking about that much bodily harm for you, then you should not be playing at all. I understand that it could be financial reasons, maybe he spent all his money on useless stuff and poor right now, but you need to understand that you could always be a good coach and make a decent amount of money.
These players are never going to earn money like we do, even if he is a coach somewhere, he could make like 50k at their start, per year, and that may not be a lot, and many do make more, the end result of that could become 2-3 million a year earning manager, so he has a great path ahead of him when he retires. All he has to do is shrink his living style down to what he earns, and he will be fine. I personally never understood players who keep playing for more money, if you can then that's great but if you can't, find another job in football world that pays maybe a lot less, but at least a good chunk of money anyway, and he could live a decent life, still probably better than us.
Another reason why pro athletes may not like to retire is they love their sport too much, we need to remember that most of those that become pros start their journey as kids and they have been practicing for decades now, so suddenly finding out that they cannot do what they love anymore makes them feel lost.
However there are many ways in which an athlete could keep themselves close to their sport without playing anymore, like becoming a coach, an assistant coach, sports broadcaster and many other occupations that are closely related to the field.
