Leverkusen became my new idol club and even Xabi Alonso's troops became the first German team to go undefeated in the first 25 matches of the season. Seeing how the match with Bochum, which was a landslide 4.0, made Leverkusen a strong team and leading the German league standings with quite a distance in points from Bayern Munich. This is Bayer Leverkusen's 13th win in the 2023/2024 German League. They are increasingly firmly at the top of the standings with 42 points, 4 points ahead of Bayern Munich below.
But when Leverkusen makes some magic happen this season and wins the title, one thing that's concerning is how will the club go on afterwards. Xabi Alonso will be on the radar of every big club looking for a new coach and as most people know, Real Madrid is on the outlook for someone to substitute Ancelotti. That would be so much for the coach. Then there are the players and despite the relatively high market value of the team, they have increased the overall value by more than 1/3 in comparison to December of last year. That includes transfer investments of course, but they have still considerably increased in value. Which means that some of their most important players will also be the target for transfers. It would not be surprising if Xabi Alonso ends up going to Real Madrid and takes two players or so with him. This is mostly the sad ending of a good season for a club on its way up. Dortmund has been losing their best players all the time.
