many gambling addicts have lost their minds because their desire to continue gambling overpowers their common sense, hence the importance of "gambling responsibly"

A gambler must gamble responsibly. When a person cannot participate in gambling responsibly, he becomes addicted to gambling. A responsible person can never become addicted to gambling.

The person the mentioned here is a total gambling addict not just a gambling addict he is a mental patient otherwise he would never have treated his family's little granddaughter the way he did. This person should be given a severe sentence because after seeing his severe sentence, many gambling addicts will reform themselves.
