THANK GOD we dismantled ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Da'esh in Arabic) before UN recognized it as country too, otherwise you would have said the same thing about ISIS terrorists that "they are fighting to protect their citizens from further attacks from Iraqis and Syrians [who wanted to end the occupation and genocide]".
