If a smoker can craft out a way working together with the support of his family to eliminate his smoking addiction then it can't be different for a gambling addict in getting the solution he wants.
It's all about the will of a person. It's difficult but it's doable if the person who is addicted understands and acknowledges that the addiction is ruining their life and the life of their loved ones as well, and they need to get rid of it, and once they realize that, they can ask their family or friends to help them get out of the addiction just like this guy who has locked his head in a cage and given the keys to his wife so that he doesn't get to smoke and leave the addiction.
A gambler can do something similar, they can give access to their money to someone else and they can ask the person to pay for things that they need to do and they shouldn't allow them to gamble until they get out of the addiction. Additionally, they can arrange other activities that will keep them away from gambling.
