So if you get into a building mindset then don't worry so much about the dollar value.  Use money that you don't need, and then continuously invest... The money that you don't need is the amount that you have left after you figure your total expenses subtracted from your total income.. and you should also retain an emergency fund that adds up; to 3-6 months worth of your expenses, and the more unstable your income and expenses, then the more you would likely have to have a higher amount of emergency reserves
