If Newcastle management had added talented players to the squad before the start of the season, we might not have seen their decline.
Newcastle become a rich club in the EPL, but players are still not sure about Newcastle's future potential. If this season Newcastle can improve its performance and at least can finished in 4th position, maybe in the summer transfer window, Newcastle can find better players than at the start of this season. Because there are prospects shown by Newcastle if they successfully compete in the UCL for two consecutive seasons.
Newcastle had qualified for the Champions League the previous season. So they had ample opportunity to strengthen the squad by adding star players to their squad. Because star players will not only come to Newcastle to play in the Premier League, they will definitely want to perform in the Champions League. It is more honorable. But the Newcastle management did not try to bring any star players into the team. And their performance this season has been poor. Qualifying for the Champions League is almost impossible for them now. Now I don't think coach Eddie Howe will be able to add any first class star players to his squad.
