I've got to find out that there are some profiles that have received whole lots of merits but some of those profiles don't circulate their sendable merits to others profiles thereby allowing the sendable merits to decay and become worthless.
How did you check it? if you only check by clicking their merit history, it's not accurate because the forum only show last 120 days activity.DdmrDdmr's Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard can provide such and much more data. It is an awesome tool and can be used for numerous evaluations in the Merit ecosystem.
At time of this post e.g. Jawhead999 received 1125 merits (no airdrop) in 692 TXReceived and sent out 456 smerits in 442 TXSent. It seems you prefer to mostly send only 1 sMerit at a time.
