i think that the reason why we have series of altcoin project coming out on a regular bases is that they want to model the functionality of bitcoin and create a coin that's just like bitcoin looking for ways to improve on the inefficiencies of bitcoin so the altcoin would be preferable compared to bitcoin.

That's for me not a bad idea if they are able to create a decentralized altcoin that is better that Bitcoin and not just one that would not stand the test of time but one that people can trust such as they trust Bitcoin and won't end up becoming a Ponzi scheme after people have invested their funds into it.
