That can't be possible. Maybe your electricity was interrupted. Or you can go to settings > Power & Battery > and look at the battery levels to know if there was a point it stopped charging. For me, I've set my laptop to never sleep under any condition, it has always been my default setting. Many times I wake up and the power is interrupted, I don't bother checking it because I already know that it was turned on even when the power was interrupted, so it is low.
For me, There is no way of electricity interruption. I have a power backup in my house. I use an IPS and I was home all night. Moreover, My Lenovo laptop has two batteries which gives me 5 to 6 hours of backup. The laptop was always plugged in and this is the setting I am using:
