Yesterday West Ham lost in the FA cup against a team playing in a much lower division than the Premier League and that for me was a really big surprise result.A team from the Premier League who happen to have won not long ago the Europa Conference League to lose to a team playing in a lower division. That shows that West Ham is truly in a volatile performance in the Premier League.
I thought West Ham would recover in the second half, but Benrahma's red card turned the whole order upside down. Unfortunately, after this moment, nothing was achieved other than waiting helplessly against Bristol. They don't care much about the FA Cup, but it must still be sad for them to lose to a team in the lower league.
In that match, I think West Ham was careless at the start of the match. Maybe they initially underestimated Bristol City a little. So it is not surprising that Bristol City immediately scored a goal in the 3rd minute after the match started. I think it was quite a big surprise for West Ham. So West Ham was not optimal throughout the match.
But apart from that, West Ham's consistency is not that good this season. Sometimes they play well and can make things difficult even for strong teams in the EPL. But sometimes they slump and lose to weak teams. And yes, it could be said that West Ham's performance has fluctuated or fluctuated. But currently in the EPL West Ham is quite good. In fact, they are ranked 6th. And it is really surprising that they lost in the FA Cup to a team that was actually just ordinary in terms of performance and quality of play.
But that loss hurts West Ham United a lot for sure. The FA Cup is one of the two competitions where West Ham knows they have a realistic chance (even if it is a small chance) to win a title and to qualify for the UEFA competitions. They still have the Europa League now and I think they should not be underestimated, but the FA Cup is the fastest way to win a prestigious trophy and to secure a spot in the Europa League for the next year. In general I believe these cups and UEFA Competitions are awesome for the clubs that are no real underdogs, but no favorites either. Now they are out of this important competition against an inferior opponent.
The bad thing is that they had two chances to beat Bristol City, a team that is in 14th position in the Championship... If you can't win against them once in two games, you don't deserve to advance to the next round.
