Yeah, that must have been about 10 years ago now. I remember advising people at the time to stop depositing funds there once all the red flags started waving, but some people continued doing it. Withdrawals were disabled, but idiots kept pouring their fiat and BTC into that gaping abyss. Pure denial. They genuinely thought they'd be rich. Dumb speculators are dumb.
That event should have marked a significant shift in how the community interact with middlemen, but absolutely nothing changed. What's obvious to some sadly isn't obvious to all. As such, I can't really say I'm surprised so few people have learned anything from Gox (and the numerous other failed exchanges since then).
