But I feel that this was more a question of time until Nice begins to lose way more games because they have been playing too much on the edge all the time. It has been subject of discussion here before, but if a team scores only one goal in almost all of the games and then has to defend and keep a clean sheet, that's not a recipe for success in the long run. As soon as their defense starts getting some trouble during games and as soon as the other teams score the first goal, Nice instantly had a problem. I knew that once their defense fails, their games will be a fail.
When a team only relies on their defense to keep a clean sheet after scoring 1 goal, then when one day these tactics have been analyzed and solved, then you will experience defeat after defeat. This is not the same as a counter attack where players use counter attacks to score goals. Currently, NICE has lost several points in the last 5 matches and as previously discussed, the title will definitely belong to PSG. I think it would be more interesting if we discussed which teams will get tickets to the Champions League next season. I bet it would be Monaco and Brest. NICE's poor form makes me think they have to find a new tactic before losing their chance at the Champions League.
I don't think it was a specific tactic that Nice pursued intentionally. I think it is more due to their incapability to play a different game. They are very weak in their offensive game, but they had a strong defense for quite some time. But playing with clean sheets for a whole season is impossible and can't ever be taken for granted. It could be small changes due to injuries or whatever else that disturbs the defensive game. They would then get into trouble immediately and that is what happened to them.
A team like PSG doesn't need to be as good in their defensive game because they can always compensate for goals conceded due to being strong scorers themselves.
