I totally agree with you,as  a beginner one thing  you should know is that gambling is part of fun not  rapping it all over your head,and also don't be convinced by any random person who claims to be an expert rate mostly in terms of prediction,well there are some person who predict correctly but those set of people are very rare.

Secondly,as a beginner you have to stake what you can afford so that even if you lose you won't regret it,and also you need to have a specific day for gambling not playing everyday it makes one to be addicted,more especially as a beginner you need to have self control is very very important,because there are some person who are into gambling but no self control,and is really affecting them to the extent that,they can't even buy wears like cloths and some other things instead of them buying all this things,they  rather use it to gamble as a result of been addicted,most of them look very unkept,they find it so difficult to take good care of there body.
More especially those that play virtual sports.

As a beginner I will advice you keep off from anything that has to do with virtual sport,It makes someone to be addicted to gambling,i have seen a set of people spending up to 100k just within 30minutes in virtual sport, there are some person who is addicted to a point that if they don't have money to gamble they might decide to sell one of there properties so as to get a staken power either.

Those set of people doesn't have limit at all,as a result of being addicted to gambling,so as a beginner you really need to introduce self control.
