I've continued investigating, and it looks like a scam. Initially, I was surprised because the information came from a close friend who confirmed that he was selling small amounts of Tether and receiving deposits in the bank.

You always have to start from the assumption that such things have nothing to do with the truth, regardless of who you get the information from. Scammers use the
"good friends" method in order to expand their network of naive users who in this specific case should believe that someone is buying the so-called stablecoin at a premium price of even 10%, which is one of the biggest nonsense I've read on the forum.
Lucky for you, you're not quite as naive as your friend who will soon find out what it means to be a
premium victim when (if) he tries to sell a larger amount of that stablecoin at a premium price.
