That's right, because the distance is not much different, there will be very fierce competition between the teams in the relegation zone. Even though this season is still very long, if you look at the performance of these three teams, there is no difference and for Mainz and Koln, who have been in the Bundesliga for quite a long time, they should be able to get better every season, but what we see is just the opposite. For Darmstadt, maybe I can understand, especially since they are a promoted team this season, so if their results are not optimal then the place they get reflects their performance in their first season.
I think there are times when teams go up and down every season and as we saw, Union Berlin, which last season finished in 4th place in the standings, now has to accept the fact that they can no longer maintain their performance from last season. So in conclusion, if they all want to survive then they have to win and if they still lose then they have to go down to the division below the Bundesliga.
Union Berlin last season were testifyingly better than they are now. They were threatening and even at the earliest part of this season, they still had that tempo high. Weeks ago, they hosted Madrid and they were able to prove their toughness too but it didn't really get them anywhere higher. Their UCL journey was quite worthwhile for them no doubt and even if they didn't really win all of their encounters, they managed to make an impactful performance in every game.
Now they'd be onto the domestic league race and on the standings, they're just a point out of the relegation zone and they've got work to do in ensuring that they don't decline in performance or points too. They'll be facing Leipzig away from home, according to records, both teams are a little bit on different ranges with the fact of being big team defeaters in past times even though Leipzig currently are higher chanced to winning the game. Although Leipzig are the host and so they've got the upper hand, but we hope to see the outcome of the game.
