If it stays somewhere, it will either be garbage and you can throw it away, or you can do something with the community. If it's a community project, why don't the developer open 1% of the daily mining amount from the pools?
Kaspa pools had such a donation rate in the beginning, we were funding the developers with 1% of our daily mining amount.
