Americans were asked to point Iran on a world map.

Dumb questions deserve a dumb answer.
The only correct American answer:
Q: "Do you know where Iran is on a world map?"
A: "Uh, I don't care."

Too cool to care? I guess you could give that as an answer. But it seems more like a defensive reaction.
Personally I would say something ubiquitous like: 'It's where Persia used to be'. That shows you are smart enough to know the answer but too cool to comply with their demand for an answer.
