Girona is quite taken into account even though statistically there is a significant difference. What needs to be highlighted is that Girona has the current top scorer in La Liga, namely Artem Dovbyk, who could disrupt Real Madrid's goal. Their performance this season is very impressive because of Dovbyk's role as top scorer. Plus Madrid's situation really lacks backup for the back line. If they are careless, it could be that Girona will dance at the Santiago Bernabeu and overtake the points in the standings table.
That's still a possibility but when looking at their first meeting of the season Girona were taught how to play football by Madrid and Madrid won 3 goals without reply at Estadi Montilivi which this season is quite haunted for La Liga clubs when visiting the headquarters of Girona.
Now their second meeting is at the Bernabeu with the militant support of the Madridistas who are sure to pack the stadium. Overall, Madrid are still very much the favorites but with Girona's astonishing progress this season they could be on a revenge mission. But even so I will still be in Madrid in the betting next week because in my opinion Madrid must also be challenged and want to distance themselves from Girona's pursuit in the race for the trophy this season.
