Ryan Garcia officially started training for his match with Devin Haney.

Derrick James will have his full attention on Garcia after his former boxers Errol Spence, Jermell Charlo and Anthony Joshua left. This match with Haney is difficult for the two of them. James has to demonstrate that he is an extraordinary mentor. Assuming Garcia loses to Devin Haney by knockout or unanimous decision, I suspect there will be not any more boxers and champions that need the mentorship of James. Garcia is in the same place as James, assuming that Haney wins in a spectacular manner, the fans will never again show interest in his next battles.
They are both desperate to win this match, and it's not going to be an easy task, they are fighting an undisputed champion who has vast experience and has beaten great champions, Derrick must bring out the best in Ryan Garcia, his career as a trainer depends so much on this fight, the fight is still two months to go but right now there's a lot of controversial like the face-off incident was staged, which I doubt because they don't have to do this as the fight will still sell with thrash talk or no thrash talk.

This fight is not for undisputed though, it will be just for Haney's WBC belt that he got from defeating Prograis recently. And I don't think that even if James as a trainer losses this one for Ryan, he will not get any clients. There are a lot of boxers that need good trainer and I think Derrick James can still get some new boxers under his wing in the aftermath of this fight.

But I do agree that he will really need to put everything for Ryan Garcia here. It's no easy task to beat Haney and we have seen flaws in Ryan that James try to improved in his last fight, but still a lot of work needs to be done for Ryan and I think those subtle changes might be seen in this big fight.
