This is what you need need to know, you are not late as you can still invest in Bitcoin and altcoin anytime, anywhere and any year regardless of the amount you have at the moment. All you need to do right now is to get a steady income, look for a project that you consider putting your money, make good research to get more information about the coins then follow the project up before investing you can still make good fortune if the projects turns very good in terms of it's rise. Investing in Bitcoin will also help you but currently you need to either be a long term holder or you can choose to do DCA but you need to be consistent with your investment if you must do a good DCA.
